Melasma
Melasma is a common pigmentation condition that causes darker patches of skin, most often on the face. While it can be persistent and sometimes challenging to manage, it responds well to the right, targeted treatment approach.
At Advanced Skin and Body Solutions in Bellevue, we create personalized treatment plans designed to gradually fade areas of pigmentation and improve overall skin tone. Our focus is on helping you achieve a clearer, more even complexion while also supporting long-term maintenance to help manage recurrence.

What is Melasma?
Melasma is a common pigmentation condition that causes brown or grey-brown patches to develop on the skin, most often on the face. It occurs when melanin-producing cells become overactive, leading to excess pigment in certain areas of the skin. It is most commonly seen on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and chin.
Sun exposure is one of the most significant triggers, but hormonal changes—such as those associated with pregnancy, contraceptives, or hormone therapy—also play a major role. For this reason, melasma is more frequently seen in women. It can affect all skin tones, but it is often more noticeable in medium to deeper complexions.
Melasma is a chronic condition, meaning it requires ongoing management as well as treatment. Consistent use of broad-spectrum sunscreen is essential to help prevent recurrence or worsening, and this is an important part of any long-term treatment plan.
